Characters are such a pain…

Before I begin this post, I must tell you that I have written this after the event happened and the mess was cleaned up. No one died or was hurt in the following story. This is what happens when I leave my characters alone for a while without checking in on them. The story is from my point of view, and all the other people in this story are characters from my novels. Now, onto the story.

Before the letter came in the mail, I forgot all about my characters. I was too busy to think about what they were doing. They were (sometimes) good characters, and they could behave for a while. Or could they? This did not cross my mind until I opened the letter. I was surprised to see that it was from a little island off the coast of one of my fantasy worlds. The handwriting was neat and a little hard for me to read (it was written in English, but there were some parts written in a language I created, but I could not remember it). I knew what the letter was about however. The citizens of the island have been disturbed by a large mansion that suddenly appeared, and it is very loud and the people at the mansion play strange music. They somehow found out that these people were my characters, and they contacted the author right away. Now I had to go do something about this, and I was not  happy. My characters would probably blow up the entire island if their uncontrolled behavior lasted much longer.

I quickly packed my bag and went to the island (don’t ask how I got there. It’s a long story). Once there, the residents of the homes on the island showed me where the mansion was. When they got close, they left me alone. They were probably afraid of the music that was coming from the house. I sighed and looked over the mansion. Obviously someone built it using magic. I would have to have a talk with that person. I looked around the yard, searching to see if there were any traps laid out for me. They knew I would come sometime, so I assumed they would put out traps for me. I did not see any however, so I began walking on the path towards the mansion. About half way there, I fell and found myself in a pit.

“How long did it take them to make this?” was the first thing I said. I stood up and brushed myself off, almost hearing my characters laugh at me. I was all dirty and once they saw that, they would know I fell into one of their traps. I knew who was behind this, and I would find him. No, I would find them. There were more who helped with this plan.

Once I got out, I cautiously made my way to the porch. Nothing else happened, but when I opened the door, a bucket of water fell on me, making me all wet. I sighed and closed the door. I already knew that this would be a bad trip. I stood in the doorway, looking around. The place was huge, and it would have been beautiful if my characters didn’t paint all over the wall. I could not see any people, but I could hear laughing, screaming, and arguing, along with music so loud I did not know where it was coming from. It was rock and country. I knew who put that music on.  I shook my head and tried to block out the sound. I needed to find some people, so I opened my mouth to call their names as loud as I could, but just then, Dani ran out from somewhere and stopped in front of the doorway. She didn’t even notice me. Instead, she squeezed her eyes shut and shouted at the top of her lungs.

“JORDYN!” And then stomped off again.

“Well, standing here is going to get you nowhere,” I said to myself, and began searching around the place. First I entered a huge living room, and there were pillows, blankets, and food everywhere. I saw Abby, Hawk, Cole, and Ransom (it was actually kind of funny to see them play with Abby, who is fourteen, since all the guys are grumpy and pretty violent, not to mention older than her) playing Monopoly. Since they were not the ones I was looking for, I left them to their game.

Next I entered the kitchen, where Alana, David, Dawson and Jamie were having a food fight. There was food all over the walls, floor, and ceiling, and all four of them were covered in food. They didn’t notice me, and they weren’t the ones I was looking for, so I passed them right by, reminding myself to make them clean the kitchen after. And perhaps make me a nice meal. I was hungry, and would be even more hungry after all this was over.

After searching various places, and seeing various characters, I entered the game room. I just shook my head. It looked like someone was playing darts, but instead of using darts, they used arrows. There were smashed and broken ping-pong balls all over the floor, and the pool table looked like it had been set on fire. There were board games scattered everywhere, and they all looked ruined. I saw Oliver and Caleb arguing in the corner about who won ping-pong, but I decided to leave them. They weren’t who I was looking for.

Next was the upstairs. All the bedrooms were a mess, as if someone was jumping on the bed, the bathrooms had toilet paper all over, and the exercise room looked like it had been used a lot. It seemed as though my characters had contests in there, because there were names and tally marks painted on the wall. No one was there though, so I moved on.

I then went to the library. When I got in there I saw Beth and Penny picking up books and screaming when they saw a good book on the floor. I knew who did this too. I saw Ril sleeping on a chair, and on the floor, I saw Stefana and Gryphon sleeping.

“Those trouble makers,” I muttered, and walked out. I continued my search, finding Alondra, Seraphina, Veronica, Fury, Mara, Leah, and Nadia sitting in a bedroom, giggling and acting all hyper. I decided that someone gave them coffee, or even something stronger. Still, the people who I wanted were not there.

“Where could they be?” I wondered.

I looked in every room of the house, and in one room seeing Logan, Mark, Brandon, Frank and Tero talking nicely. That was how I wanted all my characters to be like. unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen, and finally, after searching everywhere, I found the people I was looking for.

They were sitting on a couch and on the floor of a small room, watching a movie on a huge TV. The movie was Men in Black, and I knew who liked that movie. There was soda and popcorn on the coffee table, and none of them noticed that I was in here.

“Justin, Jordyn, Jack, Max, Cory and Nick,” I snapped. All of them looked over at me and I put my hands on my hips, giving them an angry glare. Justin paused his favorite movie and looked at Nick, who waved half heartedly.

“Hi,” he said slowly.

“I want to talk to you,” I said, and all of the boys sighed and stood up.

A while later, the boys followed me to the messy office while all the other characters began cleaning the entire house. They all had angry looks on their faces, which looked funny because it looked like they were planning on killing me with cleaning supplies. I paid no attention to them and walked through the living room to get to the office.

“Hey, my hat!” Justin exclaimed angrily. I stopped and looked around. There, on the head of a deer, hanging high up on the wall, was Justin’s favorite hat. That wasn’t good.

“Who did that?” Justin asked.

Jordyn snickered, and Justin advanced towards him.

“Hey,” I said, and Justin stopped and turned around, his shoulders slumped. I began walking again and once in the office, I shut the door. “What is this all about?”

“We just wanted to have a little fun,” Jack said, cleaning his glasses off on his shirt.

“The people of this island isn’t happy you know,” I said.

“Yeah,” Cory said.

“What about it?” Max asked.

“What about it? You have to get out of this place and go home,” I said. “And you guys, for starting all of this and for giving me trouble, will work for the people on this island for a month. Do whatever they want you to do, and do not make trouble.”

“That is no fair,” Nick groaned. I shot him a look that silenced him.

“And after that, all of my characters, including you, are going to a camp just for characters. I have a busy summer, and you can’t get in the way of it,” I told them.

“NO!” they all shouted at once. “Not that camp again!”

I smiled, “oh yes, that camp again.”

Everything was cleaned up and the mansion could be used by the citizens of the island. Justin got his hat back and along with Nick, Jordyn, Jack, Cory, and Max, they helped the people with their work. Now they are at a special camp for characters, which is a story for another time. Have a nice day, and be sure to check in on you characters to make sure they didn’t do anything like this.
